Playfulness at the court

The new chinoiserie Chinese Suite we unveil this September is a feat of restoration work and imagination. The original 18th-century panels that constitute this decor were probably painted in the mid-18th century in Canton. They were lent to us by a collector friend and we reworked them with the highest precision. Originally 5 separate panels with no obvious connections, our team were able to construct a whole new design using the original elements. This decor loops, allowing to decorate one wall or a full room.

The artists who painted this work used particularly bright colors and demonstrated a great mastery in the details of the character’s facial expressions and dresses. An air of lightness and playfulness pervades this entire scene of courtesan life.
